Flourish Walk for Cystic Fibrosis
- Dec 22nd 2022
This December 22nd, the Flourish Leadership team is stepping up to raise awareness about Cystic Fibrosis (CF) throughout Queensland. This initiative highlights a condition that deeply impacts the lives of many families globally, including some within our own Flourish community.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system due to a malfunction in the exocrine system, which is responsible for producing saliva, sweat, tears, and mucus. Despite advances in treatment, there is currently no cure for CF. CF Australia advocates on behalf of its members to gain better access to services, obtain information, and secure necessary resources.

The South East Queensland team walked through Brisbane while our Central team took a more scenic route by the sea. This was a great opportunity to get some the teams together in our regions and start a discussion about what it means to live with cystic fibrosis. We learned together while sharing stories, laughs and grounding truths about a condition that impacts so many in our community and lives. While doing so we were able to raise money for a great cause while also raising further awareness.

What Is Cystic Fibrosis?
CF is a condition you are born with, affecting families around the world. One in 25 people carry the faulty gene that causes CF, often without knowing. The gene affected by CF regulates the movement of salt and water in and out of cells. When this gene malfunctions, it leads to the accumulation of thick, sticky mucus in the lungs, digestive system, and other organs, causing a wide range of severe symptoms.
The Importance of Treatment
Appropriate treatment is crucial for people with CF to lead longer, healthier lives. Treatment can include medication, physiotherapy, nutrition, and exercise, each playing a vital role in managing the condition. Everyone with CF experiences a unique combination of symptoms, making tailored treatment plans essential.
How You Can Help
By joining Flourish in our walk for CF awareness, you are helping to shine a light on this challenging condition and supporting those affected by it. Learn more about CF, start a conversation, and contribute to the cause. Your involvement can make a significant difference.
Together, we can raise awareness and support for those living with Cystic Fibrosis. Thank you for your commitment to making a positive impact.
